Today, more than ever, this stands true as we celebrate International Men’s Day on November 19. With a strong focus on gender balance along with men’s rights, this day has become popular across many nations and is celebrated to promote humanitarian values worldwide.

The Origin

During the 1960s, there were calls for an International Men’s Day based on the fact that if there was an International Women’s Day (for female workers), then there should be an equivalent day for male workers. People argued that men worked hard but did not get any recognition or benefits for their work. In the 1990s, United States of America, Australia and Malta held events, which continue to this day. The focus is mainly on men’s health issues, highlighting positive male role models, and fatherhood along with gender balance. The longest running celebrations are held in Malta, with other countries joining the celebrations, such as Botswana, Canada, China, Denmark, France, India, Nigeria, United Kingdom, etc.
